Serrapeptase is the topic of this page and is an enzyme supplement that I have had personal experience with. I want to relate my experience and knowledge of this product to you because I believe it to be amount the best joint inflammation remedies, chelation therapy, and for better all around health and longevity.
What is it?
Serratiopeptidase (the formal name) is a proteolytic enzyme that was first isolated from micro-organisms in silkworms and now commercially produced by a fermentation process. It has been used for over 25 years in Europe and Asia with great success.
It comes in the form of tablets or capsules, and the research that has been done showing it’s effectiveness was conducted with enteric coated tablets, as it needs to be absorbed as completely as possible to have maximum effect.
What does it do?
Serrapeptase breaks down non-living tissue through an enzymatic process, which leaves healthy tissue intact. It is effective on fibrin, cysts, and the plaque that builds up in your arteries, providing a kind of natural chelation therapy. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory with no toxic side effects.
It does not thin the blood like some prescription drugs. Rather it destroys fibrin in the bloodstream, which is a byproduct of inflammation, and the cause of blood clots. This acts to prevent stroke and restore normal healthy blood flow.
It exerts it’s anti-inflammatory effects on the body as without altering prostaglandin function and thus it is considered along with nattokinase to be one of the best joint inflammation remedies, because it targets inflammation so effectively.
It is effective in a wide variety of medical conditions that involve pain, inflammation, and impaired circulation. It is also effective for oral chelation.
Below are listed just a few of the many medical conditions it is reported to be effective in treating.
- Cardiovascular disease
- Systemic and localized inflammation
- Nerve damage
- Eye problems
- Edema
- Atherosclerosis
- Emphysema
It can be used as a joint inflammation remedy, because it can break down and neutralize CIC’s (circulating immune complexes) which lodge in joints causing pain and inflammation.
It’s ability to literally digest fibrin makes it the perfect natural substance for chelation therapy. It is not known to interfere with or compound the effects of prescription medications being taken for blood clotting problems.
Is it safe?
As with any powerful enzyme, there is always a possibility of gastro-intestinal upset, which is rare, and also the possibility that mucous secretions could be thinned by the use of this product. This could lead to problems in people with a history of serious lung disease.
As with any therapy, whether natural or pharmaceutical, you need to exercise caution and seek the advice of a qualified medical practitioner who has experience with the particular substance in question.
In using it as chelation therapy, or joint inflammation remedies, your antiaging or holistic inclined practitioner should be able to properly guide you in terms of dosage and potential problem interactions with other supplements or drugs.
Dosage recommendations
The product comes in either tablets or capsules. It would seem logical to me that you should seek out the tablet form, preferably with enteric coating. This will ensure the best absorption and effectiveness.
Since enzyme activity is measured in units, and the ratio of units to milligrams is 10mg = 20,000 units of enzyme activity.
Dosage ranges are approximately 10-30 milligrams per day, which equals 20,000 to 60,000 units per day depending upon the condition.
It should be taken no closer to meals than one half hour before, or two hours after, so that it’s therapeutic action is not diminished by the digestive process. Once again, please discuss this information with your physician and seek his or her guidance to ensure that you are using Serrapeptase in a safe and effective manner.
